What happens when a family texts STOP
Last updated: October 4, 2026
A family can stop texts from your organization at any time by replying STOP. It takes effect straight away, and only the family can undo it.
What the family sees
They get an automatic confirmation like the one below, and then no more texts from your number.
The same happens if they reply STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END or QUIT on its own. Movo also stops if they write something clear like "please stop texting me".
What changes for your team
- Movo stops texting that number, and stops reaching out to the family.
- Your team can't text them through Movo either.
- Email and phone calls still work, if you need to reach them about something important.
The family's conversation shows that they opted out, so nobody tries to text them by mistake.
Find families who opted out
On Families, open the status filter and choose All contacts opted out. It lists families where every adult has texted STOP.
Texting again
Only the family can turn texts back on, by replying START to your number. After that, Movo and your team can text them again. Nobody at your organization or at Movo can undo a STOP for them. That's a rule of the phone networks, and it protects families.
If a family who texted STOP gets in touch another way, like a call or an email, and wants texts again, ask them to reply START.
