Audiences and behaviors explained
Last updated: October 4, 2026
An audience is a group of families Movo reaches out to in the same way, like everyone from a sign-up night or everyone who filled in your website form. A behavior is how Movo opens the conversation with them. Every family comes into Movo through an audience.
Make an audience
Go to Audiences and click New audience.
Give it a name, and choose who it's for: your whole organization, or one part of it. Then fill in the rest of the form.
Pick the first behavior
The first behavior decides how Movo opens with each family who joins. For example, it might welcome them and invite them to try a session. Pick the one that fits from the list.
The first behavior only shapes the opening. After that, Movo carries on the conversation the same way it does with every family: it answers their questions, checks in, and brings in your team when it needs to.
The Movo team sets up the behaviors in your list. If none of them fits what you need, click Get help and tell us.
Tell Movo who these families are
Use Who are these families and how did we meet them? to say where they came from, like "Signed up at our spring sign-up night at Lincoln Elementary". Movo mentions it in its first message and remembers it later.
Describe who the families are, not what Movo should say. The behavior already handles that.
The form also asks where families should start, like a status for everyone who joins, and whether Movo should text families who haven't picked a location yet. Then click Create audience and bring families in. See Importing a list of families.
Change an audience later
Open the audience and click Edit settings.
To use a different behavior, click Change next to First behavior, pick one and click Save. It applies to families who join from then on. Families already in the audience carry on as they were.
Always message on entry decides whether every new family gets a first message. When it's on, they all do. When it's off, Movo decides, for example if it has talked with the family recently.
If an audience belongs to a wider part of your organization, you'll see View settings instead, and only they can change it. You can still add families to it.
Stopping an audience
Only the Movo team can turn Movo off for a whole audience. Click Get help and tell us which one. To stop Movo for just one family, pause it for them. See Pausing Movo for a family.
